The survey of the students who have known the name and works of
Pushkin since childhood shows that the choice of Pushkin translations as material
for pre-translation exercises makes sense even in the modern cultural
situation. Analyzing the English translations of Pushkin‘s poetry, students get
used to work with dictionaries, learn the subtleties of style and usage, find
out how to determine the degree of literalism or freedom in translation, to
convey the realities of the native culture in a foreign language
