Anotace:
The paper is divided into two sequent par ts
in which the state of the semi-solid metal
processing technology and the possibility
of casting of wrought aluminium alloys using
this method are presented.
The first part of this paper is focused on the
possible benefits of semi-solid metal processing
and the use in preventing the formation of
casting of defects such as tears, shrinkage and
gas porosity and poor fluidit y in the casting of
wrought aluminium alloys. The paper presents
basic terms of semi-solid metal processing,
-quality criteria—requirements for a slurry,
the feedstock for casting. It discusses and
compares common terms in achieving the high-
-quality slurry and formation of mentioned
casting defects. The replacement of the
conventional dendritic morphology of the
primar y structure with the non-dendritic—
spheroidal (globular) one prepared in the
temperature range between the liquidus and
solidus temperatures reduces the formation
of these casting defects.
