Changes in the Population Age Structure of Czech Districts in 1989–2019

Anotace:
Changes in the reproductive behaviour of the Czech population occurring afer 1989 have signifcantly afected
the age structure. Te more signifcant the changes at national level, the greater the regional change. Te fall
in the fertility rate, rising life expectancy, and new spatial patterns in migratory behaviour have signifcantl
afected the population age structure in the Czech regions. Tis study focuses on Czech districts (LAU 1)
and describes changes in the regional diferentiation of three main age categories (pre-productive, productive,
and post-productive) before presenting a district typology based on these categories. Te results confrm
the existence of territorial changes in the population age structure. Analyses of regional changes in age structure
are an important resource when planning and ensuring accessibility to education, social services and health
care, and other services.
