Anotace:
Presented study deals with reading strategies as a possible method of supporting reading
comprehension while teaching foreign languages. In the fi rst part it defi nes comprehension
as a cognitive process affected by different factors; one of them is the method how teachers
instruct pupils. Next parts defi ne coherence between reading skills and reading strategies
and brings appropriate strategies for developing reading comprehension. In conclusion, it
briefl y summarizes internationl experiences and situation in Czech republic.
