Friedrich Schiller wrote The Robbers at the age of twenty-one, in the academy of Duke of Wuertemberg
at the chateau Solitude nearby Stuttgart. The opening night was in 1782 in Mannheim.
The protagonists are two Moors’ brothers, completely different in their character. Karl Moor
strives for the good, which when set into reality turns into the opposite. The play established
the feeling of resistance and dissatisfaction in Germany. Response could also be found among
Czech actors (Hilbert) and theorists (Fischer).
