Anotace:
To date there has been a lack of scientific literature on the Spanish flu in the Czech lands. This study tries
to estimate the number of victims of the Spanish flu in the Czech lands by assessing and examining demographic
statistical data within the framework of a data probe of death registers of representative cities and regions.
The total number of victims the author estimates is significantly higher than what is documented in the media
or historical literature, and lies between around 44 000 and 82 648 civilians. This means a total mortality rate
due to the Spanish flu between 4.6‰ and 8.6‰, which is consistent with corresponding estimates for other
European countries.
