Higher amount of impurities in secondary
aluminium alloys is the most impor tant
obstruction of wider application of these
alloys as the charge material. Iron is considered
the most problematic impurit y in aluminium
castings, which is mostly present in a form
of hard and brittle intermetallic par ticles.
As the presence of such phases leads to
decreasing of mechanical and foundry proper ties
of the alloy, they must be removed in a cer tain
way. Addition of so called iron correctors is
one of the most economical method of iron
neutralising. The ar ticle describes the influence
of Ni, V and Cr on the course of cooling the
AlSi10MgMn alloy with increased iron content.
